Where Will Nigerian-Eligible Adeyemi End Up?

18-year-old striker Karim Adeyemi has long been tipped as one of the best young talents in world football. The Red Bull Salzburg man has a Nigerian father, making him eligible to play for the Super Eagles in the future. However, with Adeyemi having already played for his native Germany at youth level, it appears that his future at club level is perhaps less predictable.

The likes of Barcelona, Chelsea, Napoli and Liverpool have been linked with a move for Adeyemi in the past, with the teenageer having revealed that he turned down a move to Stamford Bridge in 2020. Having been on loan in the Austrian lower leagues previously, Adeyemi is now a regular for the Red Bull Salzburg first team. Salzburg are favourites with the leading Nigerian bookies to win the league once again, with Adeyemi potentially playing a key role.

What Does the Future Hold for Adeyemi?

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Adeyemi has drawn comparisons with Norwegian wonderkid Erling Braut Haaland. Adeyemi recently made his Champions League debut against Bayern Munich, the city of his birth, before scoring his first goal in the competition against Lokomotiv Moscow. It could be that Adeyemi links up with Haaland at Dortmund, with the German’s reportedly eying the former Bayern youth player as a replacement for Jadon Sancho.

It is likely that Nigeria will keep an eye on Adeyemi’s development, who is also eligible to play for Romania through his mother, however the youngster has made it clear that Germany is his preference. “I want to achieve what these players have already achieved. That is why this award makes me very proud and is also a great motivation to continue on my path.”

“Many successful footballers who play in the national team today have also received this award. One day I want to play for the national team. Playing for the national team is always a great honor. It is always special for my family to see me play in the national team jersey. It motivates me enormously when I am invited to the national team and can play for Germany.”

Who is the Favourite to Sign Adeyemi?

Barcelona reportedly had a €15 million bid for Adeyemi rejected by Salzburg last year, with the former SV Forstenried youth team player seemingly being in no rush to join one of Europe’s elite, favouring game time instead. However, it will undoubtedly not be too long until we see the striker playing in one of the region’s biggest leagues, with betting sites set to start accepting bets on his future.
