Uruguay have a long history at the World Cup have twice won the tournament. However, you must go back to 1950 to find the last time they won the event, which was staged in Brazil. Russia
Russia have been the shock team of the group stages at this World Cup. They were being tipped as potential casualties in the group stages of the tournament but soon cast those doubts aside with a thumping 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia. This gave Russia confidence ahead of their second game against Egypt and they secured qualification to the Round of 16 with a good 3-1 win.

Uruguay and Russia have only met once before and that was an international friendly in 2012. The match ended 1-1 and gives little insight into what could happen in this World Cup match.
Odds and Predictions
The bookmakers are struggling to split the teams in the lead up to this game but it’s Uruguay who start as the slight favourites, priced at 2.70. Russia were out at longer odds to win this game prior to the tournament but have been cut back to 3.00 as a result of their good performances. The draw is also on offer at 3.10. This will be the first time in the tournament Russia have come up against a world class defence and it will be interesting to see if they can break down the Uruguay wall. There could be few goals in this match and the draw with under 2.5 goals is 3.40. The main goal scoring threat will come from Barcelona striker, Luis Suarez who is 5.00 to score the first goal of the game. Artem Dzyuba started the match against Egypt up-front and is 7.50 to open the scoring and add to his two goals already scored in the tournament.
