Poland have twice reached the semi-final of the World Cup, doing so in 1974 and 1982 but they failed to make the final on both occasions. Poland finished third in each of those tournaments and would be thrilled if they could repeat that performance in Russia having failed to get beyond the group stage in their last two attempts. Poland were very disappointing in their opening match against Senegal and deservedly lost the match 2-1. The goals they conceded were poor, with one coming from a deflection and the other as a result of individual errors. The Poles need to lift their game and improve their level of performance throughout the team if they are to get something from this game. The quality of their attacking play left a lot to be desired against Senegal and they must show more urgency.
Colombia
One early defensive mistake cost Colombia dearly against Japan and having gone one goal down and lost a player to a red card, it was always going to be tough to come back. However, Colombia showed plenty of fight in the first half and deserved their equaliser which came from a free-kick. The Colombian team seemed to tire in the second half and Japan made the extra man count, winning with a headed goal from a corner, which will have disappointed Jose Pekerman.
