    NPFL Matchday 11 Group A review

    After a little break, the Nigerian Professional Football League teams were back in action. We looked at the matches from Group A.

    Having suffered a mid-week defeat against Lobi Stars in a re-scheduled game from Matchday 3, MFM took on Bendel Insurance at home on Matchday 11. They were looking to stretch their lead at the top of Group A at the Agege Stadium.

    Olawale Abisoye scored in the 40th minute giving MFM the lead going into the break. The home side got their second goal in the 58th minute through Michael Ohanu. This was their seventh win of the season and they are now five points clear of Enyimba in second place. Bendel stay second to last in the table, losing a game after three straight draws.

    Katsina United clashed with Kwara United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Sunday. It turned out to be an exciting match. The hosts scored in the 13th minute through Martins Usule.

    They almost doubled their lead late in the first half but Destiny Ashadi missed from the penalty spot. Katsina went down to ten men after Chinedu Ajanah got two yellow cards in the space of a minute.

    This win places them in fifth place but level on points with Sunshine Stars in third and Rivers United in fourth. All three teams have two games in hand over Enyimba who are second in the table. Kwara United stay in seventh place, a point behind.

    Sunshine Stars and Enyimba played out a goalless draw at the Akure Town Stadium. Enyimba stay second in the standings and unbeaten in the last five games. Sunshine Stars remain in third place, two games behind.

    After three defeats in a row, Wikki Tourists welcomed Rivers United in Bauchi. They scored a goal in each half to halt the bad run. Umar Abba got the first goal in the 19th minute while Adeshina Gata scored the second in the 70th minute.

    Wikki Tourists are now sixth in the table with 12 points, a point behind Rivers United who stay in fourth place.

    The game between Remo Stars and Enugu Rangers was postponed as was the Niger Tornadoes vs Lobi Stars encounter.

    Two outstanding matches will take place on March 20ththis week. Katsina United will host MFM in a postponed match from round nine. Lobi Stars will travel to Akure to play the Sunshine Stars, in a match left from round two.
