    NPFL Match Day 6 review – Group B

    After a couple of postponed encounters took place in midweek, all six matches in Group B were played in Round six.

    Top of the table Heartland welcomed bottom of the table Kada City at the Okigwe Town Stadium. Samuel Nwoshori opened the scoring with a goal in the 19th minute giving Heartland the lead. But, the newly promoted Kada City countered and score twice to take the lead. Sadiq Suleiman equalized in the 28th minute with Iwuala Anayo scoring five minutes later.

    The home side needed an own goal from Papa Idris in the 52nd minute to level the score in the second half. Three minutes later Heartland took the lead again through Chinonso Okonkwo. The score remained 3:2 to Heartland at the final whistle. With this win, Heartland stay top of Group B. Kada City are still last, losing three games out of five.

    El-Kanemi Warriors hosted the Yobe Stars in Maiduguri. They took the lead in the 21st minute through Adamu Abubakar. The visitors responded and managed to equalize before the end of the first half through Abudallahi Usman.

    The home side came out with a purpose in the second half and were rewarded with a penalty midway through the half. Isiaka Olawale successfully converted the spot kick to win the match for the Warriors.

    El-Kanemi Warriors stay second in Group B level on points with Heartland in first. Yobe Stars are in 8th but with two games in hand over 7th placed Plateau United.

    Akwa United took on Go Round at home looking for their first win of the season. And it turned out to be an emphatic one. After a goalless first half, Christopher Lolo was the first to score three minutes after the restart. Ndifreke Effiong quickly added another one. And in the 70th minute, Ubong Friday made the final score 3:0.

    Akwa United move to the tenth place with a game in hand over Nasarawa United. Go Round FC are in 5th place with two wins, two draws and two losses.

    After going five games without conceding a goal, FC Ifeanyi Ubah finally gave in. They welcomed Abia Warriors at the International Stadium. The home side started strong scoring just three minutes into the game with a goal from Emmanuel Ugwuka. But the Warriors levelled the score seconds before the break. Samson Obi was the scorer.

    With their confidence high, Warriors kept on attacking in the second half. In the 59th minute, they shocked the home fans and took the lead through Shedrack Asiegbu. FC Ifeanyi Ubah had a great chance to get at least a point but they missed from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute. The visitors held on to win 2:1.

    With their first loss of the season, FC Ifeanyi Ubah dropped to third in the table. Abia Warriors moved into 6th place with a game in hand over 5th placed Go Round.

    Kano Pillars looked to get their second win this year against Nasarawa United at the General Sani Abacha Stadium. They scored three goals in quick succession to do just that.

    Adamu Hassan scored the first goal in the 20th minute. Chinedu Sunday doubled their lead before Hassan got his second and Pillars’ third.

    With this impressive win, Kano Pillars go fourth in Group B leaving Nasarawa United down in ninth.

    Gombe United and Plateau United played out a goalless draw at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe. Plateau United’s point lift them above Yobe Stars in the table while Gombe United stay second to last.
