    NPFL Match day 16 Group A review

    During the week Enugu Rangers and Lobi Stars played out a 1:1 draw in one of the outstanding matches from earlier in the season. This weekend all the teams were back for the regular round sixteen.

    Wikki Tourist has continued with their variable form this weekend in the game against Katsina United. One goal decided the match and it was scored by Manu Garba in the 67th minute. The hosts had to play the last five or so minutes with ten men since Abubakar Adamu was sent off after two yellow cards in as many as four minutes.

    Looking at the table after the match, the teams just swapped places. Wikki Tourists sit in fifth with Katsina United in sixth place and point behind.

    Before this round Sunshine Stars and Rivers United were in seventh and eighth place in the table, level on points and in similar form in the last five matches. It wasn’t a surprise then, that this match ended in a draw. This week’s encounter took place at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

    After a goalless first half, the home side broke the deadlock in the 69th minute after they were awarded a penalty kick. Ossy Martins stepped up to convert it, scoring his fifth goal of the season. Rivers played the last ten minutes a man down after the referee sent Onyedikachi Bright off in the 82nd minute.

    Three minutes later, the visitors took advantage and levelled the score from a penalty kick of their own. Ajibola Otegbeye was the scorer. After this interesting draw, both teams kept their positions in the standings.

    Two bottom of the table clubs in Group A, Remo Stars and Niger Tornadoes, locked horns on Sunday in Osogbo. The game ended in a goalless draw with both teams remaining in the bottom of the table.

    Lobi Stars welcomed Enyimba at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi. Neither team are in winning form lately, but the visitors were unbeaten in nine games. The game ended in a goalless draw. For both teams, this was their 3rd draw in four matches. Enyimba stay in second place with Lobi Stars in fourth.

    Leaders of the pack Enugu Rangers met with MFM at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu. In a round where only four goals have been scored in six games, it took a single goal to give the hosts a victory in this encounter.

    Pascal Seka scored the winning goal in the first half, his fifth goal of the season. Enugu Rangers have now extended their lead at the top of Group A to six points over Enyimba in second. MFM stay in third place.

    Kwara United and Bendel Insurance also played out a goalless draw in front of the crowd in Ilorin. This was goalless draw number three in this round. Both teams keep their positions in the table, 9th and 10th respectively.
