Nigeria winger Alex Iwobi joins Everton in a £35 million deal

Alex Iwobi, who was on Barcelona’s target earlier this summer, has signed a five-year deal with Everton on the deadline day. The Nigeria international is obviously hungry for a first-team football and, no doubt, he is going to play an important role in Marco Silva’s team in the upcoming season. The Goodison Park outfit paid £28 million upfront for the 23-year-old, but the deal could be worth up to £35 due to additional fees. Alex Iwobi is ready for a new beginning, but he is unlikely to make his Everton debut in the opening match of the season against Crystal Palace.

    Iwobi’s Premier League record

Born in Lagos, Nigeria on May 3, 1996, Alex Iwobi is a product of Arsenal youth academy. He has been part of the Emirates Stadium club since 2004, making his first-team debut for the Gunners on October 27, 2015, in a 3-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday in the League Cup.

Alex Iwobi has netted 20 goals in all competitions for Arsenal, finding the back of the net 11 times in the EPL. The Nigerian footballer scored no more than 3 goals in the Premier League last season, but, on the other hand, he provided seven assists for his teammates. Iwobi has provided a total of 19 assists in the English top flight to date. By moving to Everton he is following in the footsteps of former Nigerian captain and new brand ambassador for betBonanza Daniel Amokachi.

Toffees have big ambitions for the 2019/2020 season

Everton chiefs have been very active in the summer transfer window as they have already signed the likes of Moise Kean (forward), Andre Gomes (midfielder), Jean-Philippe Gbamin (midfielder), Fabian Delph (midfielder) and Djibril Sidibe (defender). The club owners are on a quest to bring glory days back to Goodison Park and, no doubt, Alex Iwobi is likely to help the team improve offensively.

Everton’s late move for the Super Eagles star came as they failed to persuade Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha to join the Goodison Park outfit. Considering that Alex Iwobi was producing fine performances at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, helping Our Boys win the bronze medal, it is no surprise many football experts believe that Marco Silva made a right decision.

    No Iwobi against Crystal Palace

Marco Silva’s men kick off the new Premier League campaign with a match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon, but Alex Iwobi will not make his Everton debut against the Eagles as the club management did not complete the Nigeria international’s signing on time.

Everton received the full paperwork by EPL after the transfer window was closed, meaning that Alex Iwobi is likely to play his first match for his new club against Watford on Matchday 2. Anyhow, seeing that the Toffees did remarkably well to reinforce the squad earlier this summer, we believe that they are capable of picking up all three points from the Palace clash even without the Super Eagles winger in the starting XI. You should bear in mind that Everton are 29/20 at bet365 to beat the capital club in London on day 1.

Back Everton to secure a top-six finish

Given the number of high-profile footballers in Marco Silva’s team, Everton are widely expected to shine in the 2019/2020 season. The Toffees are eager to make amends for the unsuccessful 2018/2019 EPL campaign and they are eyeing a place in European competitions.

Considering that Manchester United’s transfer window was somewhat of a disaster and given Chelsea’s transfer ban, some Everton fans believe that their favourites could be vying for a place in the Champions League as well. However, Marco Silva will certainly need time to put the team together and, no doubt, the Toffees would be more than happy with a top-six finish. Alex Iwobi and Co. are 3/1 at 888sport to finish the season in top six positions in the standings.
