Nigeria attacker Kelechi Iheanacho showing signs of improvement

Nigeria attacker Kelechi Iheanacho showing signs of improvement

Leicester City extended their winning run in pre-season on Tuesday evening, with Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho putting an end to his ten-month goal draught in a 3-0 victory over Cambridge United. The Super Eagles attacker is eager to make amends for the unsuccessful 2018/2019 Premier League campaign and, no doubt, the goal he scored against League Two side gave the 22-year-old a confidence boost. His future with the Nigeria national team depends on his performances in the English top flight and it remains to be seen if Kelechi Iheanacho is capable of finding his best form.

    A sigh of relief

Kelechi Iheanacho failed to impress in the 2018/2019 Premier League campaign, with the Leicester City striker scoring only one goal in 30 appearances in the league. Iheanacho scored his last league goal for the Foxes in a 3-1 win over Huddersfield Town on September 22, 2019, meaning that he was determined to put an end to the dreadful goalless run in the pre-season friendly against Cambridge United.

His header from a close range doubled the Foxes’ lead in Tuesday’s warm-up game, helping the Super Eagles attacker regain a much-needed confidence. Iheanacho needs to keep on raising his form if he is to enjoy the first-team football with Brendan Rodgers’ team in the 2019/2020 Premier League season and seeing that summer signing Ayoze Perez is going to inject healthy competition in Leicester City’s attack, the Nigerian footballer is widely expected to keep on improving his game. We hope that he can become as big a success in England as the former Nigerian captain Daniel Amokachi who has become the brand ambassador for betBonanza.

    Vacant position in Nigeria attack

Despite winning the Golden Shoe award at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Odion Ighalo has announced his retirement from international football. The former Watford attacker scored five goals at the showpiece tournament in Egypt, helping the Super Eagles win the bronze medal, but it seems as if the time has come for the 30-year-old to hang his boots. To make things even worse for Nigeria fans, John Obi Mikel will not be playing for the national team anymore.

Kelechi Iheanacho failed to make the Nigeria Africa Cup of Nations squad, but given Odion Ighalo’s retirement from international football, Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr will surely keep an eye on the Leicester City attacker in days to come. However, the only thing that will see Iheanacho earn a call-up for the national team is good positioning at the Premier League goal-scoring chart.

Leicester City have big ambitions for the 2019/2020 EPL season

Over the years Leicester City have established themselves as a top-table side in the Premier League. The Foxes won the national championship four seasons ago, with the team finishing the 2018/2019 campaign in ninth position in the standings. The club chiefs did well to keep hold of key attacker Jamie Vardy in the summer transfer window and, no doubt, the team’s top scorer (18 goals last term) is going to play an important role in Brendan Rodgers’ team in the forthcoming season.

Fellow Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is part of the team as well and seeing that the club chiefs signed permanent deals with the likes of Youri Tielemans, Ayoze Perez and James Justin it is no surprise the King Power Stadium outfit are just 1/2 at 888sport to finish the 2019/2020 season in the top half of the standings.

Back Foxes to extend their winning run in pre-season

Leicester City have been impressive in recent warm-up games, with the team recording three consecutive wins over the likes of Sheffield United (1-0), Cheltenham Town (2-1) and Cambridge United (3-0). The Foxes aim to keep their 100% record in the pre-season intact and we are positive that they will go for a win in Saturday’s friendly against Rotherham United.

Considering that Kelechi Iheanacho and Co. are brimming with confidence ahead of the trip to South Yorkshire, we believe that they are going to extend their winning run to four games this weekend. Odds on Leicester City to win their fourth warm-up game will be released soon at William Hill.
