England vs Belgium | Prediction, Betting Tips & Odds

England came into the 2018 World Cup on the back of huge disappointment at the 2016 European Championship.  Losing to Iceland in the Round of 16 was regarded as an embarrassment for the nation who invented the game and England are aiming to show they are back at the top of world football. Much like England, the Belgium team have flattered to deceive in recent tournaments and are looking to go further than they ever have before at the World Cup.  Only once have Belgium reached the semi-final of the World Cup and they will be hoping to at least do the same in Russia.

    Match Preview

England can relax a little going into this match knowing they have already qualified for the Round of 16.  Gareth Southgate may choose to rest some of his first team regulars in this game but top spot in the group is still up for grabs for the Three Lions. Belgium also have their place booked in the last 16 of the tournament.  This match is an opportunity to continue their fine form but much like England, the Red Devils may choose to rest some of their star players with more important games still to come.

    England

England knew it would be a disaster if they did not qualify from the is group and following a close call against Tunisia, they came into their own in the second match against Panama.  England ran riot in that game and scored 6 goals, 5 of which came before half-time and will be hoping to continue their momentum in this game.

    Belgium

Belgium made no mistake in securing their place in the 2018 World Cup knockout stages.  Having been held 0-0 by Panama at half-time in the first match of the group, Belgium scored 3 lovely goals to win the match.  Belgium wasted little time in taking the lead against Tunisia and comfortably took care of the African nation 5-2.

England vs Belgium Head to Head

With both nations playing in the European zone, they have met each other 21 times in total.  England hold the advantage with 15 wins to Belgium’s 2 and came out on top in their most recent meeting which was in 2012.

    Odds and Predictions

This is a tough match to call as both teams may rest key players having already secured their place in the next round.  It has been suggested the best route is to lose this match and avoid some of the stronger teams in the next phase.  The bookmakers cannot split them have England as the narrow favourites at 2.70, with Belgium available at 2.90.  The draw could be a good bet and is 3.20. It’s difficult to imagine this game being played at full pace, with both teams at 100% to try and win the game.  Therefore, do not be surprised to see it end in a low scoring draw and you can get 3.75 for the match to end level and under 2.5 goals. However, Harry Kane is set to keep his place in the team despite England already being through and is 4.50 to add to his 5 goals in the tournament by scoring first.  Romelu Lukaku will miss the game for Belgium and this will hand a chance to Michy Batshuayi who is 8.00 to get the first goal of the game.

England vs Belgium Top Betting Tip: Draw (1-1)

There is no real incentive for either team to win this match and that could result in a slow paced game, which is not very entertaining for the neutral.  Do not be surprised to see both teams settle for a draw, much like the outcome in the match between France and Denmark.
