Danjuma to play in the matches against Germany and Belgium

Next week, teams across Europe will play in the third and fourth round of the 2018 League of Nations. Match Days 3 and 4 are scheduled from October 11th and will run until October 16th. Coaches have this week been selecting players for those important matches.

The Dutch side is hosting Germany on October 13th and then travelling a short distance to their neighbours Belgium for a friendly game as the other two teams from their League of Nations group are playing each other. In a press release, Coach Robert Koeman has named the talented Danjuma to his final squad list. Before that, he was on the provisional squad list.

Arnaut Groeneveld Danjuma has been in the headlines this week after he scored a fantastic goal for his club side Club Brugge away in Madrid, but has since labelled his, albeit great kick, useless since they lost the game 3:1 to the home side Atletico. Still, it might have been the final thing to persuade Koeman to call him up.

Danjuma, who has already played for the Dutch U-21 side, was born in Lagos to a Nigerian father and he is eligible to play for either country, the Netherlands and Nigeria. This year, there has been a lot of speculation surrounding the young player about what country he will be playing for. He has been quoted a few times saying he would seriously think about it if there was a call-up to play for the Super Eagles. And many thought that the Super Eagles were in front in the battle to lure the player to play for them after he dropped his Dutch name Groeneveld for the Nigerian Danjuma which is the name he now has on the back of his playing jersey for Club Brugge.

However, in September, Danjuma said in a press conference that he is looking to improve in his club and that the better he gets the bigger the chances are of him being noticed and called up to play at the national level. He went on to say that he was looking forward to playing for the Dutch senior squad.

If he plays in the match against Germany, then he will no longer be eligible to play for the Super Eagles. But if he only plays against Belgium, then there would still be a chance of him switching to the Nigerian side if there was indeed a call-up from Coach Gernot Rohr.
