Croatia vs England | Prediction, Betting Tips & Odds

Croatia football fans have always been forced to look back at the 1998 World Cup to find their last real success at a major tournament.  They reached the semi-final in France but can now reach the first World Cup final in their history.  For such a small country, this would be a huge achievement. England won the World Cup in 1966 but since then, they have reached just one World Cup semi-final.  They lost the 1990 World Cup semi-final on penalties to Germany and will be glad they are not facing the Germans in this tournament.  It would be a massive moment for English football is they could make the final.

    Match Preview

Croatia have been forced to endure two penalty shootouts in the knockout stages of the 2018 World Cup but it will hold them in good stead should it happen again in this game.  With Mario Mandzukic and Ivan Rakitic on yellow cards, both players did well to avoid being booked against Russia and Croatia should be at full strength. England had things a little easier in their quarter-final match and avoided picking up bookings for players who were already on a yellow card.  This means the Three Lions should also be at full strength for this game and there can be no excuses for either team in a game which presents a great chance to reach the final.

    Croatia

Croatia were drawn in a tough group but got off to the perfect start by defeating Nigeria 2-0.  What followed was an excellent 3-0 win over Argentina and 2-1 win over Iceland which saw Croatia top the group with maximum points.  Croatia fell behind early in the Round of 16 against Denmark but equalised immediately.  The game went to extra-time and penalties, which Croatia won.  A similar series of events occurred in the quarter-final against Russia and Croatia were taken to a penalty shootout, which they won.

    England

England started their 2018 World Cup campaign with wins over Tunisia and Panama.  This meant the final game against Belgium was to see who topped the group and England lost 1-0, sending them into what looked the easier half of the draw.  Despite having taken the lead against Colombia, England were taken to penalties thanks to a late equaliser.  The English players held their nerve to win and set up a quarter-final with Sweden.  This was a poor game and England scored from a corner before sealing a 2-0 win thanks to a header from Dele Alli.

Croatia vs England Head to Head

Croatia and England have met 7 times in their history, with England claiming 4 wins to Croatia’s two.  Their most recent meetings came in qualifying for the 2010 World Cup and England won both games easily but will be expecting a tougher test in this match.

    Odds and Predictions

Having come through the quarter-final comfortably, it’s England who start this match as the favourites with the bookmakers, priced at 2.40 to win the game.  Croatia have found life tough in the knockout stages and have been forced to penalties in both their matches.  This sees them start the match as the outsiders, priced at 3.40 and the draw is also on offer at 3.20.

England looked nervous in the opening exchanges against Sweden and both sets of players are sure to be feeling anxious about the chance of reaching the World Cup final.  This could mean a tight game and if that’s the case, goal scoring chances in open play could be minimal.  Under 2.5 goals and both teams to score is 6.50.

England have been very dangerous from set-pieces and will continue to see this as a great opportunity to score goals.  Both Harry Maguire and John Stones will be up from defence and you back Maguire at  and Stones at  to score at anytime. Mario Mandzukic will lead the line for Croatia but it could be those running from deep who will cause the most problems for the England defence.  Andrej Kramaric is  to score at any time.

Croatia vs England Top Betting Tip: Draw (1-1)

The importance of this game will not be lost on the players and this could result in a game of cat and mouse in the opening exchanges.  If we get an early goal it would be great for the match but neither team are going to take big risks and we could see a low scoring draw, with the possibility of extra-time and penalty drama.
