Brazil vs Mexico | Prediction, Betting Tips & Odds

What can you say about Brazil?  The name fills football fans with excitement and to see them play at their free-flowing best is a delight.  They are the most successful nation in the history of the World Cup, having won it five times, with the last victory coming in 2002. Mexico have yet to taste success at a Word Cup finals but regularly make the Round of 16, so this will be nothing new to them as a nation.  However, they always seem to struggle at this stage of the competition and could do so again facing the might of Brazil.

    Match Preview

Brazil may be regarded as one of the best football nations in the world to watch but they are yet to bring much of their samba rhythm to the 2018 World Cup.  The current Brazil team appear to be placing more emphasis on the defensive side of their game and organisation without the ball.  That could be bad news for the other teams in the competition. Mexico on the other hand have been very exciting to watch, especially on the counter-attack.  They have some very quick players and can take advantage of any space which is left behind the opposition defence.  However, Brazil will offer a tough test with their new defensive solidity.

    Brazil

Brazil opened their goal scoring account at the 2018 World Cup with a great strike from Philippe Coutinho but could not hold on for the win against Switzerland.  Costa Rica made life difficult for Brazil but two late goals gave the Brazilians a deserved victory and they saw off Serbia with the same scoreline in the final group game.

    Mexico

Mexico caused the biggest shock of the first round of group matches when they defeated the defending champions Germany 1-0.  This was followed by another good performance against South Korea to claim a 2-1 win before the final group game against Sweden.  This is where things went wrong for Mexico and they fell to a heavy 3-0 defeat to finish second in the group.

Brazil vs Mexico Head to Head

Brazil and Mexico have played each other many times in their history, clocking up a total of 40 games.  Brazil have won 23 matches and Mexico have 10 wins to their name.  Their last meeting came in 2015 and Brazil won 2-0 in a friendly match.

    Odds and Predictions

Brazil are considered by many to be the favourites to lift the 2018 World Cup and therefore it comes as little surprise to see them at just 1.50 to win this game and progress to the quarter-final.  Despite beating Germany in the group stages, Mexico are out 8.00 with the draw at 4.20. Brazil appear to be placing more emphasis on defence at this World Cup and have conceded just one goal in three matches.  That goal was controversial and having seen Sweden keep a clean sheet against Mexico, Brazil will feel they can do the same.  Brazil to win to nil is 2.25. Neymar is the star name in the Brazilian team but Philippe Coutinho has been the main creative drive at this World Cup.  The Barcelona man already has two goals to his name and is 5.50 to open the scoring in this game.  Hirving Lozano has shown himself to be a tricky customer with his skill and pace plus already has a goal to his name from the match against Germany.  Lozano needs a big game for Mexico and is 5.50 to score at any time.

Brazil vs Mexico Top Betting Tip: Brazil (2-0)

Brazil have a more methodical approach to their style at this World Cup and it seems to be working for them.  They have already won two matches by a 2-0 scoreline and if they get the first goal in this match they could produce yet another 2-0 victory.
