Brazil – Costa Rica | Prediction, Betting Tips & Odds

Brazil always start the World Cup as one of the favourites to lift the trophy and nothing has changed for the 2018 World Cup.  Having suffered disappointment and embarrassment in-front of their own fans at the 2014 World Cup, Brazil qualified for Russia in commanding fashion and will be aiming to take their place back at the top of the world game. Costa Rica enjoyed a sensational 2014 World Cup campaign and will do well to replicate their quarter-final place in Russia.  This is their fifth appearance at the World Cup and twice they have progressed from the group stage.

    Match Preview

Brazil come into this game as the massive favourites to take 3 points.  There are not many nations Brazil could meet at the World Cup and start the match as underdogs, so there is little surprise to see them at short odds.  They have quality throughout the team and Neymar is one of the leading stars in world football. Nothing was expected of Costa Rica in 2014 and perhaps that worked to their advantage.  Teams are a little wiser to their tactics and players this time around and they will find this an extremely tough match.

    Brazil

Brazil looked good in the opening exchanges of their first match against Switzerland and deservedly took the lead through a magnificent Philippe Coutinho goal.  Everyone expected Brazil to go and win the match comfortably but they dropped off the pace and a controversial penalty allowed the Swiss back into the game.  Brazil could not up the tempo and a similar display in this match will not be tolerated.

    Costa Rica

Costa Rica are not the type of team who are going to blow other sides away but they will be very disappointed to lose their opening match against Serbia.  A great free-kick was the only difference between the teams on the scoresheet but Costa Rica created chances in the first half but could not take any of them.  Better finishing and link-up play between the attack and midfield is required.

Brazil – Costa Rica Head to Head

Brazil and Costa Rica have met 10 times in their history, with Brazil dominating the results.  Only once have Costa Rica defeated Brazil and that came in the 1960 Pan-American Championship.  The last time the teams met was in a 2015 friendly which Brazil won 1-0 and they also played in the 2002 World Cup with Brazil winning 5-2.

    Odds and Predictions

Brazil are always going to be the favourites for a World Cup match against all but the very top teams and so it is no surprise to see them at just 1/5 to win this game with Bet365.  Costa Rica have already lost one match to Serbia and this is reflected in their huge odds of 18/1 to cause an upset and defeat Brazil.  The draw is also available at 6/1. Despite Brazil being the big favourites for this game, they were not at their fluent best against Switzerland and could find Costa Rica a tough nut to crack.  Brazil to win and under 2.5 goals is 7/4 at Bet365.  Neymar will be keen to get off the mark in this match and is 13/5 to get the first goal of the game with Marco Urena likely to be the biggest threat for Costa Rica at 6/1 to score any time.

Brazil – Costa Rica Top Betting Tip: Brazil win (2-0)

Brazil did not get out of second gear against Switzerland and recent matches against Costa Rica have ended in just a single goal victory.  Expect Costa Rica to be tough to break down but Brazil have the quality to get the goals they need to win this game and should come through to take maximum points.
