Belgium vs England | Prediction, Betting Tips & Odds

Belgium fans have never seen their country reach the World Cup final and they will have to wait another four years to see if they can finally make the showpiece occasion.  However, the Red Devils still have a chance to make history by winning this game and finishing third for the first time in their history. England were hoping to put past failures behind them by reaching the 2018 World Cup final but it wasn’t to be for Gareth Southgate and his platers.  They must now try and raise their game after a disappointing performance for much of the match against Croatia in the semi-final.

    Match Preview

Belgium can count themselves unfortunate to lose out to France in the semi-final.  There was not a great deal to choose between the teams and it took a set-piece to split them.  Roberto Martinez will be keen to improve his team on corners, as they do not want to be caught out again from a corner and lose the game. England started their semi-final strongly against Croatia and took the lead with an early free-kick.  However, their failure to score from open play allowed Croatia back into the match and having conceded the equaliser, England were very much second best for the remainder of the second half.  The Three Lions need to work on their chance conversion in open play

    Belgium

Belgium enjoyed a straightforward route through to the knockout stages of the tournament, winning all three group games against Panama, Tunisia and England.  In the Round of 16 they met Japan and came back from 2-0 down to win the game 3-2 in the dying seconds.  The quarter-final saw Belgium defeat Brazil 2-1 thanks to some great attacking play in the first half but the could not break down the French defence in the semi-final and lost 1-0.

    England

England enjoyed a fairly comfortable ride in the group stages of the tournament, defeating Tunisia and Panama before losing to Belgium with a second-string team.  This saw the Three Lions meet Colombia in the Round of 16 and the concession of a late equaliser took the game to penalties, which England won.  The quarter-final against Sweden proved easier but England were found wanting against good opposition in the semi-final.

Belgium vs England Head to Head

Belgium and England have met 22 times, with the English coming out on top having won 15 of those games.  However, Belgium have won their most recent match 1-0, which was in the group stages of this tournament.

    Odds and Predictions

Having already defeated England in this tournament and looking the better of the two teams in the semi-final, it’s Belgium who start this match as the slight favourites, priced at 2.30 with. England must recover from their extra-time exploits against Croatia and improve the level of their play in the second half of the game if they are to come out on top.  England are 3.00 to win the game and the draw is 3.60. oth teams will not care a great deal about this game having just missed out on a place in the final.  We could some changes to both starting XI’s but the match could be entertaining to watch, with plenty of chances to score at both ends of the pitch.  Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score is 1.80. elgium have some great attacking talent at their disposal and Romelu Lukaku will want to catch Harry Kane in the race for the golden boot.  Lukaku is  to open the scoring in this game.  England have relied heavily on set-pieces at this World Cup and John Stones came close to adding to his two goals in the semi-final.  Stones is  to score at any time for England.

Belgium vs England Top Betting Tip: Belgium (3-1)

Belgium have had an extra day to rest while England have come through two lots of extra-time, including the semi-final.  Some of the English players were struggling towards the end of the match with Croatia and that could lead to some changes in their starting XI.  Belgium look the better team and could secure their best ever finish at a World Cup with the win.
