Australia have a very tough road to reach the World Cup, with significant travelling for many of their matches. However, following a long qualifying campaign they are playing at their fifth World Cup finals. Only once have Australia qualified from the group to reach the knockout stages which was back in 2006. Peru are playing in their first World Cup finals since 1982 and their fans have been in full force during the tournament, determined to enjoy themselves. Only twice in their history have Peru progressed beyond the first round of the tournament and that’s the way it will stay following the 2018 World Cup.
Match Preview
Australia know they need to win this match to have any chance of making the Round of 16. Not only must the Socceroos win this game, they must do so by enough goals to have a superior goal difference to Denmark or hope the Danes lose by a bigger margin against France. Peru have already been eliminated from the tournament but will want to give their fans something to cheer about before they fly home. The Peru supporters have been some of the best in the tournament and will be on hand to cheer their team as they aim to win their first match at a World Cup since 1978.
Australia
Australia started the 2018 World Cup with their most difficult match of the group, against France. They gave a great account of themselves and but for a deflected goal near the end of the game could have claimed a point. Australia did manage to claim a point against Denmark and showed great spirit to come back from an early goal to draw 1-1.
Peru
Peru have played very well in both matches against Denmark and France but failed to take their chances in-front of goal. Having missed a penalty against Denmark in their opening game, Peru slumped to a 1-0 defeat and suffered the same result against the French, despite some enterprising attacking play.

This will be the first time Australia and Peru have met on the football pitch. However, Australia have experience of playing South American teams from previous World Cup tournaments, including Chile in the 2014 World Cup, a match they lost 3-1.
Odds and Predictions
Having seen both teams play twice in the tournament, there appears little to separate them but both will be eager to claim the win. Australia have the most resting on this game, as they could still qualify but are the slight outsiders at 3.00. Peru will be determined to win a game for their fans and can be backed at 2.45, with the draw on offer at 3.50. Australia have scored 2 goals at the 2018 World Cup, one in each game and Peru have yet to find the back of the net. This suggests we could be in for a low scoring game and the draw and under 2.5 goals is 4.00. Australia do not have a great deal of quality in the goal scoring department and have relied on penalty kicks for both their goals. Mile Jedinak is the man from the spot and can be backed at 11.00 to score the first goal of the game.
