Brazil vs Switzerland | Prediction, Betting Tips & Odds

We’re well and truly on the road to Russia now, and with just a few weeks remaining until the tournament gets underway, we can barely contain our excitement. Thirty-two teams from around the world are going to converge on one country in order to determine who will be the world champions. How can you not be excited by that? We’ve been running through some of our thoughts and tips ahead of the first set of fixtures, and now, we’re looking at the Group E encounter between Brazil and Switzerland which could well decide which of these two teams goes on to win the group.

    Match Preview

There’s an argument to be made that the World Cup wouldn’t feel right without the Brazilians. Over the years they’ve undoubtedly been the greatest and most successful footballing nation in the game’s history, and while they’ve been through a couple rough patches as of late, they’ll still go into this tournament as the favourites ahead of Germany and France. They had a thoroughly successful qualifying campaign en-route to reaching the finals, and while Switzerland also qualified, they made hard work of it during their playoff against Northern Ireland.

    Brazil

You can never count out Brazil at the World Cup, and while they may be the favourites for this year’s edition, they’ve still somewhat flown under the radar in terms of the hype behind them. They’ve got an organised unit which runs throughout the core of their team, and without the pressure of being the hosts this time, they may be able to get their heads down and focus on the task at hand. One thing is for sure, they’re in fantastic form heading into the tournament with four wins and two draws in their last six as well as five clean sheets. Oh, and their last win came against Germany.

    Switzerland

While Belgium tend to be looked upon as the perennial underachievers in European football, you could argue that Switzerland deserve to be featured in that conversation too. They always seem to impress in qualifying for the Euros and the World Cup, and then when it comes to the actual tournaments, they’re never able to do much of note. This time around the expectation for them will be to reach the knockout stages, and thankfully, they seem to be moving in the right direction with just one loss in their last six games including a 6-0 demolition of Panama.

Brazil vs Switzerland Head to Head

Throughout history, from what we can gather, Brazil and Switzerland have come face to face on eight separate occasions. While most would assume that Brazil have been dominant during most of their encounters, things are actually split fairly evenly with three wins for Brazil, three draws and two Swiss victories. They faced each other back at the 1950 World Cup, too, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Obviously, the past doesn’t matter all too much, but psychologically, it’ll help Switzerland fans to know that they’ve won two of their last three games against the South Americans.

    Odds and Predictions

Brazil are the clear favourites with bet365 at 2/5, with the draw being priced at 7/2. Switzerland will likely relish being the underdogs at 7/1, although as the game goes on without a goal, those odds will start to tumble pretty quickly given how stubborn the Swiss can be defensively. Speaking of goals, the bookies can’t seem to decide what’s going to happen in terms of hitting the back of the net with over 2.5 being 19/20 and under being priced at 17/20. One thing is for sure, this’ll be one game that nobody will be able to take their eyes off of – we hope.

Brazil vs Switzerland Top Betting Tip: Brazil (1-0)

As much as we’d like to believe that Brazil will be tested here, they’ve got more than enough quality in their squad to see off Switzerland with relative ease. With that being said, it doesn’t feel like they possess the kind of flair necessary to blow the Swiss out of the water – especially given how good they are defensively. It might not be what everyone wants to hear, but you may want to prepare yourselves for a narrow 1-0 Brazil victory courtesy of an early strike – likely by Neymar. Still, there’s always the possibility of them underestimating their opposition.
